Busan Gears Up for ‘Festival SHIWOL,’ a Fusion of the City’s Major Events

2024. 08. 19

The City of Busan has announced that it will host its first-ever convergence exhibition and convention, Festival SHIWOL, from September 30 to October 8, 2024. During the nine-day festival, 17 international events will be held across six key sectors: music, film, culture, gourmet, business, and technology. Major events include the Busan International Film Festival, Busan International Rock Festival, Busan Global Webtoon Festival, Craft Beer Festival, and Asia Startup Expo.

To enhance the experience for attendees, an integrated festival pass has been introduced, granting access to all 17 events as well as the "Silence Music & Party" held outdoors at BEXCO. The pass will be available for purchase starting on August 30. Additionally, bundled tourism packages have been prepared in collaboration with 11 local hotels to encourage longer stays in Busan.

Given that the festival coincides with China’s National Day holiday (October 1-7), the city has also developed a special package tailored for Chinese individual tourists, combining the Visit Busan Pass with the SHIWOL integrated ticket, available for purchase through China’s leading online travel platform, Ctrip. To foster interaction among event participants, temporary structures called SHIWOL Village and SHIWOL Pavilion will be set up outdoors at BEXCO, offering a range of programs.

Busan has long aimed to maximize the synergy of its global events by aligning them within a single period. Modeled after the globally renowned South by Southwest (SXSW), Festival SHIWOL represents a new concept in exhibition and convention events. To this end, the city signed a cooperation agreement with 11 organizations in May to ensure the festival’s success.
